June Lake Advocates is currently in the process of formation as a nonprofit citizens group, dedicated to maintaining the unique mountain town character of June Lake; educating the public regarding development, growth, and land use affecting the June Lake Loop; promoting cooperative solutions ensuring that decisions regarding future growth work for the community of June Lake; ensuring compliance of local authorities with the letter and spirit of local ordinances, plans, and policies in their decisions and actions affecting the June Lake Loop.

We're not saying no: we're only saying how. The group's first item of concern, and the primary motivation for its formation, is Intrawest's plans for development of the region across Highway 158 from the June Mountain parking lot known as the Rodeo Grounds, consisting of the hills bordering the highway and the meadow beyond them. The Specific Plan recently filed by Intrawest calls for 9-story buildings and an added population of about 7,000 (the June Lake Area Plan sets the height limit at 35 feet and the population at 2,610). June Lake Advocates has already conducted a survey (results below) of local property owners regarding this issue, and will use this information to ensure that development proceeds according to your wishes.
