The community of June Lake blends natural beauty and resources with a family of local residents, second home owners, supportive business interests, and a familiar group of tourists who return year after year to fish, ski, hike and appreciate the restorative power of our precious community.

However, June Lake is at a crossroad. A proposed development project by Intrawest has the potential to make a drastic impact upon the character of our rural community. This is our concern. This is also a concern for everyone who enjoys, everyone who has enjoyed, and everyone who will enjoy the pristine offerings of this wonderful spot on the Eastern Sierra.

June Lake has an established area plan that was developed to respect the existing resources while allowing for reasonable growth to ensure the health of the community. Now we are being asked to amend this plan to allow for a massive development that does not guarantee the conservation of our scenic community. We want to educate and inform the community about the potential impact of this development to our area. We believe that any changes to the plan should be considered very carefully.

There is no reason to amend the existing plan. After all, the natural resources of June Lake have not changed; what has changed is the desire of a developer to create corporate wealth.
